Turkey is the value option among Mediterranean destinations, and the gap is substantial rather than marginal. The Aegean and Turquoise coasts give you pine-covered hillsides running down to clear water, ancient ruins and excellent food, often at costs well below Greece across the water.
The trade-off is a longer flight and a legal process that needs more preparation, both of which are manageable with notice. For a city wedding, Istanbul adds palaces and terraces on the Bosphorus, where Europe meets Asia, and inland Cappadocia offers sunrise ceremonies beneath hundreds of hot air balloons.

The legal side
Getting legally married in Turkey
Foreign couples can marry legally in Turkey through the local municipality's marriage office, but it takes more preparation than in Cyprus or Malta. Typical requirements include:
- Certificate of no impediment: apostilled, with a notarised Turkish translation, valid for six months.
- Birth certificate: apostilled and translated into Turkish.
- Passport translation: your passport photo page translated and notarised in Turkey.
- Medical report: from a Turkish state health institution, confirming there is no impediment to marriage.
- Photos and interpreter: passport photos, and a sworn translator present at the application and ceremony if you do not speak Turkish.
Because of the medical report and translations, most of our couples marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony in Turkey, which removes the complication entirely.
Requirements are set by each municipality and can change, so we confirm the current rules for your chosen town before you book.
Best time to marry
When to get married in Turkey
May, June, September and October. July and August are very hot on the Aegean coast, often above 35°C, with warm nights.
September is the standout month: the sea is at its warmest, the crowds have gone and the weather is still reliable. Flights to the coast are seasonal and thin out outside roughly May to October, while Istanbul works all year.
