Rustic weddings

Rustic and countryside wedding venues across the UK, Europe and beyond

Countryside and rustic venues, the Andalusian finca above all, are where most of our couples end up. They give you space, mature olive and citrus, thick stone walls that stay cool, and an outdoor dining setting that needs almost nothing added to look remarkable.

They are also, usually, dry hire. That means marquee or shade structure, catering kitchen, loos, generator, lighting and staff all come from elsewhere, and the headline venue price can be a fraction of the true figure. We cost a finca properly up front rather than letting the extras arrive one quotation at a time.

The finca explained

What is a finca?

A finca is simply a country property: a farm, an estate or a rural house with its land. For weddings the word covers everything from working olive farms and vineyards to grand estates. What they share is space, privacy and a sense of place you cannot recreate in a hotel.

The best wedding fincas have several distinct areas, so the day moves naturally: a ceremony spot under trees or in a courtyard, a terrace or lawn for drinks, a long dinner outdoors and somewhere covered for dancing.

Finca Monasterio near Sotogrande has a jasmine ceremony pergola, an orangery pavilion and thirty two rooms, and Casa de la Era above Marbella has a Roman-columned ceremonial circle and an amphitheatre for up to two hundred and fifty guests.

Dry hire or all inclusive?

Dry hire means you rent the space and bring in everything else. Some estates include part of this, so two venues with similar hire fees can end up thousands of euros apart. We build a full cost for every venue on your shortlist.

Most fincas Dry-hire finca

Total freedom

  • Lower hire fee
  • Your choice of caterer and drinks
  • Complete freedom over styling and suppliers
  • Furniture, lighting and toilets hired in
  • More lines in the budget to manage
  • Accommodation often limited
Estate with in-house services

Simpler planning

  • Furniture, lighting and toilets usually included
  • Package-based pricing that is easier to budget
  • Accommodation often on site
  • Higher hire fee
  • In-house or approved caterers only
  • Some restrictions on suppliers

Rustic does not have to mean simple. With good lighting, beautiful tables and the right caterer, a finca can be as elegant as any ballroom, with centuries of character thrown in.

Why the countryside

Benefits of a rustic wedding venue

Space for everything

Separate areas for the ceremony, drinks, dinner and dancing.

Natural beauty

Olive groves, citrus and old stone that need very little decoration.

Freedom to choose

Pick your own caterer, drinks, styling and suppliers.

Total privacy

The whole estate is yours, with no other guests or events.

Late finishes

Many rural estates have no music curfew, so the party can run late.

Rooms on site

Many country estates sleep the wedding party, or even most guests.

Long outdoor dinners

Tables under the trees, the way the Mediterranean was made for.

Characterful photographs

Texture, history and golden light at every turn.

Light and temperature

Sunset and summer temperatures, by destination

Rustic weddings happen outdoors, so the light and the heat shape the day. Inland fincas are hotter in the afternoon but cooler at night than the coast, which is why we plan late ceremonies and long dinners under the stars.

Good to plan for

Planning a rustic wedding

Countryside venues reward good planning. These are the four things we check first.

Transport

Most fincas are a short drive inland, so we plan coaches for guests and check that suppliers' vehicles can reach the site.

Sound and finish

From no curfew at all to an early close where neighbours are near. We confirm the rules in writing before you book.

Evening temperature

The countryside cools quickly once the sun goes down. Wraps, heaters or a covered space keep the party outside.

Access for every guest

Gravel paths and steps are common, so we plan lighting, seating and step-free routes for anyone less steady on their feet.

Good to know

Rustic weddings, answered

What is a finca wedding?

+

A wedding at a country property in Spain, such as an olive farm, vineyard or rural estate. Fincas offer space, privacy, gardens and character, and most host the ceremony, drinks, dinner and dancing in different areas of the grounds.

What does dry hire mean?

+

You rent the venue and bring in everything else yourselves, including catering, furniture, lighting, toilets and staff. It gives you complete freedom but needs careful budgeting, because the hire fee is only part of the cost.

How much does a finca wedding cost in Spain?

+

It depends on the venue, the season, the guest numbers and how much is included. A dry-hire fee can look modest, but the full cost with catering and hire can be several times higher. We cost each venue fully before you decide.

Do fincas have accommodation?

+

Some do. Finca Monasterio sleeps seventy across thirty two rooms, and Castillo de Monda sleeps seventy two. Others have a villa for the couple and close family, with guests staying in nearby hotels.

Is there a music curfew at rustic venues?

+

It varies. Many rural estates have no curfew at all, while fincas near houses may finish earlier. We confirm the rules in writing before you book, so the party is not cut short.

What is the best time of year for a countryside wedding?

+

In southern Europe, May, June, September and early October, when days are warm and evenings are comfortable outside; in July and August, schedule the ceremony late and make sure there is plenty of shade. In the UK, June to early September is the safest window, with a barn or covered space ready for the weather.

Are rustic venues suitable for older guests?

+

Most are, with some planning. Gravel paths, steps and uneven ground are common, so we arrange seating, lighting along paths and step-free routes where needed, and transport to the door.

What are the benefits of a rustic wedding venue?

+

Rustic venues give you space for every part of the day, natural beauty that needs little decoration, freedom to choose your own caterer and suppliers, and complete privacy. Many rural estates have no music curfew, some have rooms on site, and they are made for long outdoor dinners and characterful photographs.

Can we have a rustic barn wedding in the UK?

+

Yes. The UK has some of the best rustic venues anywhere, from restored oak-beamed barns to farm estates with meadows and walled gardens. Many are licensed for ceremonies on site and have plenty of indoor space, which matters with British weather. Popular summer Saturdays book up well over a year ahead.
