Wedding Venue

El Molino de Casanova, Nerja

El Molino de Casanova is a private finca on the hillside above Maro, the little village just east of Nerja, sitting off the old N-340 coast road towards Granada. It began life as an olive mill with a house for the miller, and was rebuilt from a ruin with many of its original features kept (Nerja Weddings by Sonya). Today it is a five-bedroom villa wrapped in landscaped gardens and terraces, with views over Maro and the countryside running down to the sea.

A wedding here feels like taking over a friend's country house for the weekend. The villa is rented for two or three nights, so you and your closest people can stay on site, then the ceremony happens in the tree-lined garden and dinner moves to the poolside, the lawns or the terrace looking down over Maro. There is only one event a day and, according to Bodas.net, no fixed finishing time.

The venue

The spaces

Garden ceremony area

A green, tree-shaded corner of the grounds used for outdoor ceremonies.

Maro terrace

A terrace looking down over the village of Maro, used for drinks or dinner.

Pool area

The swimming-pool side of the finca, a popular spot for drinks and long-table dining.

Gardens and dance floor

Landscaped lawns with a dedicated dancing area for the evening party.

Andalusian patio

An original Andalusian courtyard kept from the old mill house (Bodas.net).

The villa

A five-bedroom, five-bathroom house that sleeps up to 10 and comes with the hire.

Old mill, open sky

A party that doesn't have to stop

Few venues on this stretch of coast let the music play outdoors into the small hours.

Many coastal venues ask you to move inside or turn the music down well before midnight. At El Molino de Casanova the party can stay outside under the stars into the early hours (Nerja Bride), and Bodas.net lists no time limit on celebrations. Add the fact that only one wedding is held per day and that your inner circle can sleep in the villa, and you get a relaxed, unhurried feel that is hard to find closer to the busier resorts.
