Clifftop terraces on Santorini, villas on Crete and Corfu, and olive groves on the mainland, with an honest guide to island logistics.
Santorini, Crete, Corfu, Rhodes and the mainland, planned by a team who knows the islands and their logistics.
Greece is the destination couples picture when they think of a wedding by the sea: white walls, blue domes, a clifftop terrace and the Aegean going on forever. It delivers exactly that, and it asks a little more of your planning in return.
The main decision is island or mainland, and it affects everything from cost to how easily your guests can get there. Santorini and Mykonos are the image; Crete, Corfu, Rhodes and Paros are often the more practical choice; and the mainland, from the Athens Riviera to the Peloponnese, is the quiet answer, with olive groves and coastline guests can drive to.
We plan weddings at wedding venues in the UK, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece and beyond, so we can compare Greece honestly with the alternatives.
Spectacular, but island logistics need care: ferry timings, limited flights and the cost of moving suppliers by boat all add up. Santorini, Mykonos, Crete, Corfu and Rhodes all have airports with seasonal flights from the UK.
Olive groves, ancient sites and coastline, with one big advantage: guests can drive from the airport to the venue, with no ferry or second flight.

Foreign couples can marry legally in Greece and there is no residency requirement, but the paperwork is more involved than in Portugal, and documents must be translated into Greek and apostilled well in advance.
A good number of our couples marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony in Greece, which removes the admin without changing the day and lets you marry anywhere, at any time.
Requirements vary by municipality and change over time, so we confirm the current rules for your island or town before you book.
May, June, September and early October. July and August are hot and at peak tourist density, which affects prices and availability more than the wedding itself.
The meltemi, a strong northerly wind, blows through the Aegean in summer, sometimes for days. On exposed island venues it is a genuine planning factor for marquees, hanging lighting and unamplified ceremonies, so ask every venue how they handle it.
| Month | Average high | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| May | 25°C | Warm, green and quiet |
| June | 29°C | Long evenings, busy islands |
| July & August | 31°C | Peak heat, prices and meltemi winds |
| September | 28°C | Warm sea, golden light, very popular |
| October | 24°C | Mild, with venues winding down |
Approximate averages, which vary by island.
A Greek wedding venue for around 100 guests typically costs €3,500 to €14,000, with Santorini at the top of the range (Big Fat Greek Day, 2026). Island weddings cost more than they first appear, once ferries, flights and moving suppliers by boat are added, while the mainland and the larger islands are usually better value.

Santorini is the most spectacular and the most expensive, and its logistics are demanding since almost everything arrives by boat. Crete, Corfu, Rhodes and Paros offer similar beauty with easier access, more accommodation and lower costs, and generally suit guest lists of eighty or more better.
Very much so. The Athens Riviera, the Peloponnese, Halkidiki and Pelion give you olive groves, ancient sites and coastline, with the big advantage that guests can drive from the airport to the venue rather than adding a ferry or second flight.
