Villa weddings

Private villa wedding venues across the UK, Europe and beyond

A private villa gives you something no hotel can: the whole place to yourselves, from the morning the hairdresser arrives to the last breakfast two days later. Your closest people stay on site, the timeline belongs to you rather than to a function sheet, and nobody is asking you to vacate a room by eleven.

The catch is that a villa is a house, not a venue, so almost everything has to be brought in. Kitchens, power, loos, licensing and noise limits all need checking properly before you fall in love with the photographs. We survey villas against that list and tell you the real cost of a blank canvas.

Wedding villa or holiday villa?

There is an important difference between a villa set up for weddings and a holiday let that occasionally allows events. It is the single biggest risk in villa weddings.

What we recommend A villa that welcomes weddings

Wedding estate

  • Has hosted weddings before, with references
  • Events written into the rental contract
  • Known sound limits and finish times
  • Space and power for a caterer's kitchen
  • Access for suppliers' vans and guest coaches
The risk

Holiday let

  • A strict no-events clause in many contracts
  • Owners who cancel when neighbours complain
  • Residential areas with early music cut-offs
  • Kitchens and power built for a family, not 100 guests
  • Narrow drives and gates vans cannot pass

Never book a villa for a wedding unless the owner has agreed to the event in writing, with the guest numbers and finish time spelled out.

Villas that welcome weddings

The villas we recommend are properties that are set up for weddings and have hosted them before. Huerta del Conde, above the Bay of Málaga, sleeps fourteen in a villa surrounded by botanical gardens and has no music curfew.

In Italy, Villa Rocca 1914 near Ostuni sleeps eighteen across nine rooms, and Pettolecchia La Residenza brings five suites, eight hectares of olive groves and a private beach club.

Each one has been checked for the things that matter on the day: access, power, kitchen space, toilets, sound limits and a written agreement for events.

The day runs to your schedule, not a hotel function sheet.

The full picture

What a villa wedding really costs

The hire fee is only the start. Because a villa is a home, most of what a wedding needs arrives on a lorry. These are the four parts of the budget we cost for you before you commit.

1

Villa hire

The rental itself, often with a minimum stay of three to seven nights in high season.

2

Hire-in

Tables, chairs, linen, a catering kitchen or tent, toilets, lighting and sometimes a generator or shade structure.

3

People

Caterers, bar staff, parking attendants and security for the end of the night.

4

The small print

A security deposit, cleaning, event insurance and any permits the municipality requires.

None of this makes a villa a poor choice. It means the comparison with a hotel has to be made on the full figure, not the headline one.

Planning the day

Villa wedding logistics

A good villa wedding feels effortless because these questions were answered months before.

Access

Narrow mountain roads, steep drives and gates a catering van cannot pass all shape what is possible. We check them first.

Guest transport

Guests staying elsewhere need a coach and minibuses rather than taxis, particularly late at night.

Flow of the day

Where the bridal party gets ready, where the kitchen sets up, and where the toilets go so they are discreet but easy to find.

The rules

Sound limits, finish times, maximum numbers and any licence the event needs, confirmed in writing so the day is not cut short.

Light and temperature

Sunset and summer temperatures, by destination

A villa wedding happens almost entirely outdoors, from the ceremony on the terrace to dinner by the pool. These figures help you choose a month and time the day to the light.

Good to know

Villa weddings, answered

Can you get married at a private villa in Spain?

+

Yes, at villas that permit events. A civil marriage in Spain generally requires one partner to be resident, so most couples hold a symbolic ceremony at the villa and marry legally at home. Many holiday villas forbid events, so always check before booking.

How much does a villa wedding cost?

+

The hire fee is only part of it. Furniture, catering, toilets, power, lighting, staff, cleaning and a deposit are usually extra, and many villas require a minimum stay. We cost the whole wedding before you commit, so the comparison with a hotel is fair.

How many guests can a villa wedding have?

+

Most private villas suit forty to a hundred and fifty guests, depending on the outdoor space, parking and local rules. Larger estates can take more. Accommodation on site is usually for close family and the wedding party.

Are there noise restrictions at villas?

+

Often, yes. Villas in residential areas can have strict sound limits and early finish times. Rural estates are usually more relaxed. We confirm the rules in writing before you book.

How long do we have to rent the villa for?

+

Many villas require a minimum stay of three to seven nights in peak season, which works well for a wedding weekend with family. Some wedding estates offer shorter packages outside summer.

Where do guests stay for a villa wedding?

+

Close family usually stay at the villa, with other guests in nearby hotels or rentals. We arrange the accommodation and the transport between them so nobody is left looking for a taxi at midnight.

What are the benefits of a private villa wedding?

+

The whole property is yours, with no other guests or events. Your closest family and friends stay with you, the day runs to your own timeline, and you have complete freedom over caterers, music and styling. Villas also give you pools, gardens and terraces for the welcome party and recovery day, and a relaxed, house-party feel across the whole weekend.

Can we stay at the villa for the whole wedding week?

+

Usually, yes, and many villas require it, with minimum stays of three to seven nights in high season. It works beautifully for a wedding week: arrival and welcome dinner, the wedding itself, a pool day to recover and a farewell brunch before everyone heads home.
