Why get married in Sotogrande?
Sotogrande is a private estate of several thousand acres between the coast and the hills, and the most exclusive address on this stretch of Spain.
- Large plots screened by mature planting, so villa weddings feel genuinely private
- Cork oaks, umbrella pines and polo fields rather than palm trees
- Santa María Polo Club and several championship golf courses
- Gibraltar airport twenty five minutes away, convenient for UK guests
- A marina and sailing for guests staying several days
- Space and quiet that is hard to find closer to Marbella
Wedding Venues in Sotogrande
Sotogrande is not really a town. It is a private residential estate built in the 1960s, spread across several thousand acres between the coast and the hills, and it is the most exclusive address on this stretch of Spain.
It is known for three things: polo, golf and the marina. Santa María Polo Club hosts one of the most important tournaments in Europe each August, and Valderrama, which staged the Ryder Cup in 1997, is a few minutes away.
Why couples choose Sotogrande
Space and privacy, mostly. Plots here are large, houses are set back behind mature planting, and a villa wedding in Sotogrande feels genuinely secluded in a way that is hard to achieve closer to Marbella.
The estate is also unusually green. Cork oaks, umbrella pines and the polo fields give it a landscape more like the English countryside than the Costa del Sol, which surprises guests arriving expecting palm trees.
For a certain kind of wedding, the sporting side is the point. Polo, golf across several championship courses, and sailing from the marina give guests plenty to do across a long weekend.
Getting here
Gibraltar airport is the closest at around twenty five minutes, which suits UK guests well. Málaga is roughly an hour and fifteen, and Jerez about an hour and a half.
The estate is large and not walkable, so transport between accommodation, ceremony and reception needs arranging properly.
When to marry here
May, June, September and October are ideal. Be aware that August is polo season, when the estate is at its busiest and accommodation prices peak.
The Levante wind blows through this part of the coast more than further east, and it can be persistent. It matters for marquees, hanging lighting and anything unamplified outdoors.
Good to know
Sotogrande is residential, so villa weddings sit under residential noise rules. These are often stricter than commercial venues elsewhere on the coast, and the estate takes them seriously.
Most villa weddings here are dry hire, meaning you bring in catering, staff, furniture and everything else. That gives you freedom and requires proper planning.
Accommodation on the estate is largely private rental rather than hotels, so book early and plan for guests spread across several houses.

What our couples say
From the moment we found Swish Soirées, we knew we were in safe hands. Planning our wedding from Madrid while organising guests travelling from across Europe could have been overwhelming, but every step was handled with professionalism and genuine care. The venue looked even more beautiful than we imagined, and every supplier was exceptional. Our family still talks about how magical the whole day was. Thank you for making our dream wedding a reality.
We couldn't have asked for a better wedding planning experience. Every recommendation was perfect, communication was excellent and everything ran exactly as planned on the day. We were able to relax and enjoy every minute with our family and friends, knowing everything was being taken care of behind the scenes. It was simply unforgettable.
Our wedding on the Costa del Sol was everything we'd hoped it would be. Every little detail reflected us as a couple, and the whole day felt relaxed, elegant and full of joy. We never imagined planning a destination wedding could be so straightforward. The support we received throughout the process gave us complete confidence, and we couldn't be happier with how everything turned out.
Choosing Swish Soirées was one of the best decisions we made. From helping us find the perfect venue to coordinating our suppliers and managing the wedding day itself, everything was organised so professionally. We didn't have to worry about a single thing, which meant we could simply enjoy every moment with the people we love. We would recommend them to anyone planning a wedding in Spain.
Getting married in Spain had always been our dream, and it exceeded every expectation. The planning process was enjoyable from start to finish, and every question we had was answered quickly and honestly. The attention to detail was outstanding, and the entire celebration felt effortless. Our guests described it as the best wedding they'd ever attended, and we couldn't agree more.
We honestly couldn't have wished for a better experience. Planning a destination wedding from Ireland seemed like a challenge at first, but from our very first call we knew we had made the right choice. When the day arrived, everything was exactly as we'd imagined and the whole day flowed effortlessly. If you're thinking of getting married in Spain, we can't recommend this team highly enough.

Is Sotogrande a good choice for a villa wedding?

August is polo season, when Sotogrande is at its busiest and accommodation is most expensive. The atmosphere is excellent if that appeals, but for a quieter and cheaper wedding, May, June, September and October are better.
